The NeoCon World’s Trade Fair is the most expansive interior design showcase in North America. Each year, over 50,000 people ascend on Chicago to visit 1,200 showrooms, exhibitions, lectures, and seminars that nourish design enthusiasts with varied perspectives on residental and commercial furnishings.

During NeoCon, the Luminaire Chicago showroom provides a much needed platform within the design community to applaud the tenants of good design, to allow designers to experiment with new ideas, and to engage in dialogue that educates the public on how design, when executed well, can change people’s lives.

In June 1990, he first Luminaire exhibition during NeoCon welcomed six manufacturers Alias, Casigliana, B&B Italia, Interlubke, Driade and Zanotta – to the showroom to showcase a preview of their newest designs. As part of the preview, Piero Busnelli of B&B Italia introduced the revolutionary Domus program, a complex, modular system designed by renown designer Antonio Citterio. Containers hidden by doors, bookcases with sliding doors, open organizational elements, and a gracefully simple aesthetic has made the Domus program a heralded system for living rooms and offices throughout the world.

Along with Busnelli, other design manufacturers including Carlo Forcolini of Alias, Maurizio Casigliani of Casigliani and Dulio Gregorini connected with visitors and shared their design philosophies. Indeed, the first Luminaire exhibition during NeoCon encouraged people to rethink modern design in new and innovative ways.
