Luminaire opened its doors to hundreds of guests at the Miami Design District showroom to celebrate the second installment of Design+World.

On Thursday, December 6, 2012 from 6:30pm – 9:00pm Luminaire opened its doors to hundreds of guests at the Miami Design District showroom to celebrate the second installment of Design+World, a comprehensive exhibition that explores how today’s designers are changing the world with forward-thinking design.

While socializing with fellow design lovers over prosecco, guests enjoyed technologically bold, materially expressive work, including Light Photon by Philippe Starck for Flos, a unique OLED lamp in limited production of 500 pieces; the elegant w127 task lamp, made from biologically-sourced plastic, by Dirk Winkel for Wastberg; and i.Rain by Thierry Gaugain for Blackbody, a disarmingly beautiful cluster of pendants acting as a shower of light. Also making its US debut at Design+World was Synapse by Francisco Gomez-Paz for Luceplan, a sculptural lighting concept inspired by nature with surprising lighting effects. Arriving in Miami for the first time after being featured at Luminaire Chicago for NeoCon 2012, the strikingly simple Stickbulb transformed scraps of maple and sunbleached Ipe wood into versitile LED lighting designs. Once getting a closer look at new designs from world-renown visionaries and Luminaire friends Oki Sato of Nendo and Piet Stockmans, guests also witnessed the highly-anticipated US debut of Luca Schieppatis Ciclotte bike, a true expression of contemporary living that unites work, entertainment, relaxation and exercising in one gracefully minimal design.

Guilio Cappellini, Bram Boo, Anna Lenti, and Marva Griffin were among the design luminaries participating in the evenings festivities. In addition, Guests experienced the launch of the Luminaire online store by interacting with a thoughtfully-curated selection of products now offered virtually, with the option of purchasing them at the event by scanning a QR code.
