The Essential Home: Luminaire Defines the Essential During the Chicago Design Show

To coincide with the Chicago Design Show, Luminaire introduced The Essential Home, the first annual series to feature contemporary design.

More selective and more focused than the NeoCon World’s Trade Fair, the Chicago Design Show provided a platform for its 250 exhibitors to share their perspective on design to a national and international public. At the time, the Chicago Design Show was the only show in the US that many of the exhibitors would reveal their products in the United States.

To coincide with the Chicago Design Show, Luminaire introduced The Essential Home, the first in an annual series of special installations that presents contemporary design as a total environment. Luminaire’s Essential Home, an 1,800 square foot idea-lab that explored the sacred aspects of domestic space, invited us to consider how a well-designed home shelters both body and soul.

The Essential Home evokes and enhances the beauty of contemporary living through simplicity and efficiency: rooms and objects are adaptable to multiple purposes, technology is at the service of comfort, and style is simple and elegant. The refined interior includes a public living space for working, playing and cooking; and a private space for relaxing, bathing and sleeping.

Form, color, materials, space, light, sound and fragrance all combined to reflect and inspire our choices about privacy, movement, sensation and thought. What could be more essential?
