Balancing natural material with the clean, reflective properties of mirrored glass, Joan Lao's Vital Mirror is a study in considered proportion. Incorporating Bauhaus philosophies on proportion and geometry with the integration of sustainability through the use of environmentally sound materials and production methods, Lao's work highlights the harmonies found in nature. Lao incorporated the Japanese idea of Wabi-sabi, where beauty is found in the naturally occurring variations in materials and surface textures, into the series of case goods.
