Seeking to blend and harmonize cultural legacies with design, Shigeru Uchida's activities encompass a wide range of areas including interior design, furniture and industrial design, architecture and urban planning. His belief in design as a reconciliatory force between people, society and nature permeates much of his work and is reflected in his wall mounted storage for Pastoe. Horizontals consist of linear bodies that are fitted with sliding doors. The bodies are available in two sizes as well as an asymmetric combination, which may be combined to create an intriguing minimalist sculpture for the wall. The metal sliding doors can move in two directions, creating a dynamic interplay of lines. The Horizontals can stand alone as design objects, and are suitable for the storage of CDs and other media.
