We are pleased to welcome Fritz Hansen’s master upholsterer of Arne Jacobsen’s iconic Egg™ chair to the Chicago showroom

One of Denmark’s most influential architects and designers, Arne Jacobsen is an international pioneer in modern design widely known for his mastery of proportions. We are pleased to welcome Fritz Hansen’s master upholsterer of Arne Jacobsen’s iconic Egg™ chair to Chicago on March 3 at 6pm to demonstrate the craftsmanship behind the making of this iconic chair. Uniting the functional objectivity of modernism with organic forms, Arne Jacobsen’s legacy lives to this day with his acute sense of proportion relevant in all his works.

Arne Jacobsen studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of the Arts and in 1930 opened his own architectural office in Hellerup, Denmark. In 1949 Jacobsen began work on the Munkegaard School outside of Copenhagen. During this project he created the Ant™ chair that began his rise to international fame. Then, in 1956, Jacobsen began work on his most celebrated accomplishment, the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. His work on this project resulted in the creation of his signature designs: the Swan™ chair and the Egg™ chair, among countless other designs that continue to impact the design world.

In 2003 Luminaire celebrated Arne Jacobsen with a comprehensive exhibition and book release of his biography by New York architect Michael Sheridan. Today, we are proud to host Fritz Hansen’s master upholster, Hans Thure Mannerhagen, to demonstrate the craftsmanship behind the making of Arne Jacobsen’s iconic Egg™ chair. Luminaire believes in the importance of creating and nurturing enduring relationships with designers, manufacturers and its clients through educational endeavors demonstrating the thought process and craft within good design.
