On December 6, Luminaire Lab² hosted the visionaries Patricia Urquiola, Felix Burrichter and Konstantin Grcic for an evening exploring the future of domestic landscapes. The event coincided with the introduction of “This Will Be The Place,” a monograph documenting the forward-thinking vision of legendary Italian design brand Cassina.

“This Will Be The Place” is a retrospective survey of the past with a focus on the future and how modern-day social behaviors influence the way we live today. Edited by PIN-UP magazine’s founder and editor Felix Burrichter, the book features four sections that explore the topic through interviews including Konstantin Grcic, essays by notable professionals from a variety of fields, and concludes with a photographic interpretation of the future of living illustrated by Cassina under the art direction of Patricia Urquiola.

During the event, over 300 guests interacted with Urquiola, Burrichter and Grcic, special guests including Poltrona Frau Group’s CEO Dario Rinero, Cassina’s general manager Gianluca Armento, and representatives from Cassina Japan.

As the night progressed, Burrichter gave insight into the creative experience of compiling the book, positioning it as a survey of ideas that shape the way we live today while moving towards the future. Urquiola and Grcic spoke from the perspective of designers who work with Cassina, detailing the impact their experiences with the company have had on their creative contribution. Concluding the conversation, Luminaire founder’s Nasir and Nargis Kassamali provided further insight into the relationships between Cassina, Luminaire, and the designers.

After the talk, the designers spent time signing individual copies of the book which were available for purchase at the event.

As longtime friends of Luminaire, it was a pleasure to welcome Urquiola and Grcic back to Miami for an inspiring evening discussing design and celebrating the reunion of Cassina and Luminaire, who share an extensive history with a unified mission of propagating good design.

Cassina’s commitment to research and experimentation are presented at Lab² through a visionary approach to living environments. Luminaire was excited to celebrate Cassina’s unique forward-thinking vision along with their thought-provoking book that highlights the insightfulness of the prestigious Italian brand.
