Still Movement

August 2011

On Monday, August 29th at the Centro Universitario Bela Artes in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the fourth BOOMSPDESIGN Conference takes another look at how Brazilian design is influencing international design trends. This year, Luminaire is poised to join the conversation as sponsors for the premiere of Still Movement, a film and photography collaboration between noted architecture and design photographer Paul Clemence and director/photographer Aksel Stasny.

Still Movement is an experimental video project which features photo stills of architecture from all over the world, gradually sketched and shaded in grey, emerging from a white void and retreating just as quickly as a new image appears. Throughout this collage, one catches a glimpse of buildings by the world’s most celebrated architects, including Sir Norman Foster, Frank Gehry, Oscar Niemeyer and Zaha Hadid. The result is a visual symphony, one heightened by an ephemeral soundtrack from artists Taylor Deupree and Stephan Mathieu.

‘Like the seduction of music, we relate to architecture without even realizing, without focusing, on it…my work aims at capturing that moment,’ says Paul.

Our participation in BOOMSPDESIGN, like that of Luminaire’s longtime friends Paul Clemence, Arne Quinze, Rene Gonzalez and Chad Oppenheim, illustrates our commitment to understanding design and investigating the many directions it travels.
