Takumi Shimamura combines 400-year old Japanese wood cutting techniques and historic kimono tapestry weaving with modern industrial processes to create the spectacularly thin Woodum range of wood placemats and coasters. Available in rectangular and round versions, the soft and durable placemats are made of a thin sheet of sliced wood which is soaked in resin making it both highly waterproof and scratch-proof. Backed with non-woven and non-slip fabric, the placemat is also extremely flexible and will not break when bent. The placemats retain the natural characteristic of wood and remain natural in appearance, giving a foundation to the dinnerware on the table.
